United Supermarkets donates $30,000 to Food2Kids in support of Weekend Snack Bag program for local children

LUBBOCK, Texas — On Thursday, United Supermarkets donated $30,000 to Food2Kids, a local non-profit organization with the mission of helping children facing food insecurity in the Lubbock community.

The funds will specifically support the Food2Kids’ Weekend Snack Bag Program, which is designed to bridge the gap between the free lunch on Friday to the free breakfast available on Monday morning. During the last school year, Food2Kids served more than 2,200 children from 37 different schools in the area.

“We’re honored to support this organization and, in particular, the Weekend Snack Bag Program,” said Tony Crumpton, market VP of merchandising and marketing for The United Family. “Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in many of our communities, and Food2Kids is making a meaningful difference by helping bridge that gap. We’re proud to stand behind their mission and the impact they make for local children and families.”

Each snack bag costs an average of $4 to fill, totaling approximately $80 a semester per child, or $160 per child annually. It is Food2Kids' ultimately hopes to expand the program to serve children year-round. Students in Lubbock ISD, Frenship ISD, New Home ISD and New Deal ISD currently receive services from Food2Kids.

“We are incredibly grateful for The United Family and its commitment to investing in the children of our community,” said Jerry Ramirez, executive director of Food2Kids. “Over this last school year, Food2Kids packed tens of thousands of snack bags at a cost exceeding $220,000. We sincerely thank The United Family for helping offset this expense. Their support is making a tremendous difference.”
